Art Village Gallery commemorates MLK50

While the world looks on as the city of Memphis commemorates the 50th anniversary of the assassination of civil rights icon, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Art Village Gallery brings its' ground-breaking Beyond the Balcony exhibition to spark dialogue about how we can live up to Dr. King's legacy, fifty years later.

Acknowledging the power of art to ignite social change and capture social and political movements, Sheila Urévbu, Art Village Gallery's director and curator, believes the MLK50 commemoration presents a clean canvas to help Memphis decide where it goes from here.

"We've brought together a collective voice of extremely talented artists to usher the community into candid conversation about the City’s progress while visually illustrating its promise and what it looks like to live 'Beyond the Balcony,’ says Urévbu.

Featured artists from across the globe include: Nonye Ikegwuoha, Sydney James, Kerream Jones, Jin Powell, Rashaun Rucker, Taylonn Sawyer, and Ephraim Urévbu.

Art Village Gallery will also host an intimate post-exhibition Dinner & Dialogue event on Tuesday, April 3rd from 7-9pm. Guests will enjoy a five-course meal prepared by a private chef and engage in a curated discussion about the art and the city-wide theme, led by Ericka DeBruce, Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc's Vice President of Engagement, Inclusion and Social Responsibility. Tickets are currently on sale through April 1st.

Art Village Gallery’s MLK50 commemorative events are generously supported by its presenting sponsor, Sedgwick Claims Management Services Inc, and supporting sponsor, The Marston Group, PLC.
